Please know that Michelle handles all the scheduling needs, but works part-time without set hours. She does respond to your needs during normal business hours, thank you for your patience.

  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts (FSA) can be used to pay for office visits, supplements, and labs.  Most insurance companies will NOT cover office visits and labs because Delaware does not license naturopathic doctors, and Dr. Furtado is not in any insurance network.

    Services are an out-of-pocket expense.

If you wish to try to submit for reimbursement, please inform Dr. Furtado at the time of payment of services. UPON REQUEST, she can provide a receipt with medical coding which you can submit to your own insurance company to try to request reimbursement.

  • Yes, almost all visits are through telemedicine only. We use the online portal called Healthie.

We use predominantly telemedicine and Dr. Furtado is now able to provide her services to more patients. The doctor provides convenient, face to face live video appointments. All from the convenience of your home or office.

If you are new to telemedicine, we will help you with the adjustment.

If you prefer to have in-person sessions, Dr. Furtado is available two days per month, by appointment for in person sessions at Ebb+Flow Holistic Spa located at 423 Savannah Road, Lewes DE. Please know there is a slightly increased fee for in-person sessions.

  • Since starting practice in 2001, even while in person, Dr. Furtado would not perform much physical exams, but instead would refer you to your primary care doctor to perform all necessary physical exams, and patients report those relevant findings to Dr. Furtado. Due to the issue that naturopathic doctors do not have access to licensure in Delaware, this boundary is the most safe choice for both patient and doctor.

So, both with telemedicine and in person sessions, Dr. Furtado relies on you to continue to see your primary care doctor and share any relevant physical exam findings.

  • This is often when someone comes to see Dr. Furtado, if conventional medicine hasn’t been able to identify or resolve the health issue.  With a thorough discussion of your health and functional lab insight, we can find more answers to permanently resolve problems.

By working to address the root cause issues, we can work together to stimulate the body’s own healing capacity.

Remember, when we treat holistically, we do not treat symptoms or diseases, but we treat whole people. So, even with rare or hard to treat, complex health issues, the body’s own healing wisdom can be the focus of care. It is a process to assess and create change in the body that facilitates healing rather than symptom management.

ESTABLISHED PATIENTS

  • The typical suggestion is to have a return visit after 6-8 weeks after the initial session.

Generally, Dr. Kim suggests 1-3 sessions that are 2 months apart, and as health care goals are met, we graduate you to come every 6-12 months, or as needed for support.

  • There are many labs available to evaluate your health issue. The most common labs address:

    1. Adrenal

    2. Thyroid

    3. Hormones

    4. Digestion and microbiome

    5. Neurotransmitters

    6. Heavy metals and non-metal chemicals

    7. Nutrition Evaluation (amino acids, essential fatty acids, various nutrients and minerals, etc)

    8. Organic Acids Panel (mitochondrial function)

    9. Cardiovascular health

*Lab costs vary and are an out-of-pocket expense. Most commonly ordered test panels range in cost from $95 to $350, but can cost more depending on the panel and number of tests. All testing is optional is determined after discussion within sessions.

  • Yes, it’s important to review your labs in-session to allow for a complete explanation and full understanding of how the results could be impacting your health.

If you ask for report from the laboratory directly without discussion in session with Dr. Furtado, she will not be able to answer any questions about the results outside of a scheduled session.

  • Healthie chat can be a great way to ask a quick question or share with Dr. Kim how you are doing. A question that doesn’t involve a back or forth dialogue that can be answered in 1-2 sentences is best. We want you to feel cared for, have a way to share brief progress updates or ask clarifying questions, and so chat is for you to utilize!

Clarifications regarding current protocol instructions that can be addressed quickly for Dr. Kim will be responded to free of charge.

Any client inquiry that requires greater time, and/or a more thorough review of a chart is best served by setting up an appointment.

We have found through experience that chat is often not the best way to deal with in depth questions and decisions. In these cases, please schedule an appointment so Dr. Kim will have time set aside to directly hear and address your concerns.

  • Dr Furtado uses different labs who provide their own instructions on how to submit samples.

Please contact the lab’s customer service directly for help with collection instructions. Healthie chat may also be used to ask Dr. Furtado any direct questions you have about submitting samples.
